Our Story
Internal archives show Arab Transit's history dates back to the 1930s. The Company was owned by a group of leading Jordanian and Palestinian businessmen, including the late Mr. Rashad Toukan, offering customs clearance and transport services from Mediterranean ports like Beirut, Lattakia, and others. In the years after, his son the late Mr. Mamoun Toukan, a prominent businessman and entrepreneur, later acquire bigger stake of Arab Transit's ownership and expand it's activities in the region. Arab Transit was his endeavor in the logistics and transport space, and one that would be carried out through the generations to come.
"Steeped in Tradition, Driven by Experience"
In the early years of founding, Jordan was part of Transjordan and the Company handled cargo from nearby in the Mediterranean. Following the independence of Jordan in 1946 and the establishment of the port of Aqaba for commercial use in the 1950s, Arab Transit shifted to handling cargo in the Port of Aqaba, with the first commercial sugar vessel in Aqaba being handed by Arab Transit.
After Mr. Mamoun's passing, Arab Transit was led by his son, Mr. Rashad Toukan, who spent his earlier professional life chartering vessels and operating a shipping agency. Mr Rashad has accumulated over 35 years of experience in shipping and logistics, and has served in multiple board positions, including as a board member on the Jordan Shipping Association, Aqaba Ports Corporation, and Aqaba Container Terminal (operated by APM Terminals).
Today, as the Company accumulates over 70 years of experience, and having the third generation join in, Arab Transit offers a range of solutions that complement one another and aims to be known as the Region's Trusted Logistics Partner. Learn more about Our Heritage
